Yesterday, Bayern Munich fired their manager Julian Nagelsmann after 19 matches in charge of the club and swiftly replaced him by fellow countryman Thomas Tuchel.
It looks like Nagelsmann will not stay on the unemployment line for so long as news reaching Soccer Scoop shows that the 35-year-old, former RB Leipzig manager is open to holding talks with Tottenham Hotspur about becoming their next manager.
Tottenham’s current manager Antonio Conte’s contract expires in June this year, and the club have no plans of extending it whatsoever, so much so that they even started looking for his replacement a few weeks ago. Conte’s outburst against his own players he labelled “selfish” after the Southampton draw did not help matters.
It is understood that the club Chairman Daniel Levy has been a long-time admirer of Nagelsmann, and he was in the running to replace Mauricio Pochettino after he was sacked in 2019, but the job went to Jose Mourinho.
After Mourinho’s sacking in 2021, Nagelsmann was also thought about for the job when he was still at RB Leipzig, but Bayern Munich came calling and proved to be too good to decline. Now that he is a free agent, Levy feels like he can get his man in the Tottenham dugout.
It has been a passive love story, as Nagelsmann also admitted to following the proceedings at Tottenham for quite some time, going as far back as watching matches when Pochettino was still in charge and regularly watching Mourinho’s press conferences during his time at the London club.
“I love Jose’s press conferences.” Nagelsmann admitted in one of the interviews in 2021.
Tottenham are still in the fight for the top four, but have to play other contenders for that Champions League spot, Liverpool and Newcastle in the remaining 10 matches of the Premier League. They kick off against Everton on April 3, 2023, after the international break.
