Arsenal stretched their lead at the top of the Premier League table to five points thanks to JGabriel Martinelli’s goal that ensured they edged Leicester 1-0.
Arsenal’s away-from-home form has been blistering this season and were facing a Leicester City side that’s been the exact opposite.
January signing Leandro Trossard thought he had opened the scoring for the Gunners in the 28th minute, but the goal was disallowed by VAR for a Ben White foul on Leicester City goalkeeper Danny Ward.
10 minutes later, Kelechi Iheanacho put the ball in the back of the net but it was disallowed for offside, which meant that halftime ended goalless.
Arsenal finally got their goal as soon as the second half started, Martinelli slotting home in the 46th minute before Bukayo Saka, who had been somehow quiet in the match tapped in another disallowed goal in the 55th minute.
What followed afterwards was Mikel Arteta’s side interchanging between defending their lead and looking for a second goal while Leicester mounted more pressure than they did in the first half to try and at least level matters in their own backyard. This didn’t happen.
Had Arsenal failed to bag all the three points, they would’ve had themselves to blame as they had a lion’s share of the possession in the first half. The Gunners’ were undone by their failure to get that final ball, but with the three points mow in the bag, that won’t matter.
Arsenal are now five points clear at the top of the table as they wait for what will come out of the Manchester City vs Bournemouth fixture later.
