English Premier League side AFC Bournemouth has sacked Gary O’Neil less than seven months since he was appointed as the club’s permanent manager.
This was confirmed by the club on Monday afternoon with Bournemouth’s owner Billy Foley terming it a ‘difficult decision’.
“This has been a difficult decision,” Bournemouth owner Bill Foley said. It has been made with great consideration to best position ourselves ahead of the coming season.
“Gary will go on to have a long career as a head coach or manager, but we feel that, at this moment in time, a change is in the best interests of this football club.”
The 40-year old took charge of Bournemouth, first in August after Scott Parker was sacked. He was then appointed on permanent basis in November.
He helped Bournemouth survive relegation last season as he won 10 of his 34 Premier League games in charge to help the Cherries finish 15th.
According to Bournemouth, they will announce O’Neil’s successor “mminently.”
