Barcelona summer addition IIkay Gundogan has said he “didn’t know anything about football ” before working with Pep Guardiola at English Premier League champions Manchester City.
“Before I joined Man City, I thought I knew football,” Gündogan told ESPN on Monday.
“I was 25 or 26 years old, I’d seen a lot. I’d played a Champions League final. But now standing here after seven years of Pep’s school, I’d say I didn’t know anything about football before.
” His influence on the team and me personally was immense.”
The 32-year old spent seven seasons in the Premier League, playing for Pep’s Manchester City and helped the club to win five League titles, two FA Cups, Four League cups and the Champions League – most of which when he was captain of the side.
He left City for Barca earlier this month on a free transfer after his contract at the Citizens had expired.
Before joining City, Gundogan play for FC Nürnberg and Borussia Dortmund in Germany. He helped the German side win the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal in 2011.
He is currently capped 67 times with Germany National Team and has so far scored 17 goals.
