Manchester City fans have been given some good news regarding their star striker Erling Haaland as City’s pursuit of a sixth Premier League trophy in seven years continues.
The Norwegian has missed City’s last eight games in all competitions due to a foot injury he suffered at the start of December.
He had been hoped to be back at the beginning of January, but that has not been the case as he’s not even back in training.
But as the champions are set to travel to Abu Dhabi for a warm-weather training camp next week, Haaland is expected to train with the team, and Pep Guardiola is hopefully he’ll be good to go at the end of the month.
Speaking to the media ahead of City’s clash with Newcastle on Saturday, Pep Guardiola said; “Yes, (he’s had) a little bit of disturbing problems in his feet. It’s fine but the doctors decided to stop for one week and maybe restart in Abu Dhabi.
“Hopefully at the end of this month, he’ll be ready. It was a little bit more than we expected in the beginning. It’s the bone. It needs time. With every injury, you can do whatever you want but it’s a question of time.”
While Haaland who already has 19 goals to his name this season continues to be missed, Guardiola confirmed Kevin De Bruyne is set for his first start since returning from a long-term injury.
The Belgian made his return as a second-half substitute in City’s 2-0 win over Sheffield United at the Etihad on December 30, but he is finally to start a game for the first time since August last year in Man City’s league opener against Burnley.
“Yes [he may start at Newcastle],” confirmed Guardiola on Friday. “From what I saw yesterday [Thursday] I feel good about it. He got some good minutes in training.
“He is getting better now, he will have a few days off after this game and can train in Abu Dhabi to be good for the next few months.”
Manchester are currently placed third in the table standings with 40 points. A win for them on Saturday will take them the second position.
