Kyle Walker has compared his Manchester City teammate IIkay Gundogan to Real Madrid legend Zinedine Zidane at his peak.
The right-back said this while speaking to the media on Tuesday ahead of Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League semi-final clash with Real Madrid
“I’ ve seen a few tweets and been joking with Gundo that he turns into prime Zidane in the last few months,” Walkere said.
“Sometimes you have to shine, and he does it at the business end of the season.”
The City skipper has been in superb form recently and has scored four goals in the last two Premier League games to help City in the season run-in and most crucial part of the campaign.
Since the German joined City from Dortmund in 2016, he has featured in 300 games and found the back of the net 58 times. This included coming off the bench to score twice last season against Aston Villa in the last game of the season to help City win the Premier League title at the expense of Liverpool.
Gundogan and City will need to score against Madrid at Etihad in order to progress to the final of this year’s UEFA Champions League. The first leg ended 1-all in Madrid after Vinicius Jrn scored for Madrid before Kevin De Bruyen equalised for the Citizens.
City can still win a treble this season as they are in the brink of a third successive Premier League title and are in the FA Cup final.
