Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah lamented over the poor season the club has had after watching Manchester United qualify for the Champions League following the Red Devil’s 4-1 victory over Chelsea yesterday.
That win sealed United’s UCl qualification while ensuring Liverpool will play in the Europa League next season. The last time Liverpool played in this competition in 2016, they went all the way to the final before losing to Spanish side Sevilla.
Last week, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said it is “okay” to finish outside the top four and that Liverpool will still attract big-name players in the forthcoming summer transfer window but Mohammed Salah harbours different sentiments.
Salah was not afraid to express his feelings about Liverpool’s performances and their finish this season and used his Twitter page to let his fans know.
“I’m totally devastated. There’s absolutely no excuse for this. We had everything we needed to make it to next year’s Champions League and we failed. We are Liverpool and qualifying to the competition is the bare minimum. I am sorry but it’s too soon for an uplifting or optimistic post. We let you and ourselves down.” Salah’s tweet reads.
During the press conference held today, Klopp was asked what he thought about Salah’s tweet and the German tactician did nothing but defend his player.
“It’s completely normal, in the world of social media so many bad things happen and I don’t think that’s one of them. It’s a normal description of the situation, and he’s right.” Klopp said.
Although Salah said he was “devastated”, Klopp said he is in a good mood ahead of their last match of the season against the already relegated Southampton on Sunday.
“But I saw him now an hour ago in the canteen and he was smiling, he was not in a bad mood!” Klopp confirmed.
