Arsenal’s new signing Declan Rice is buzzing about playing for the Gunners in the Champions League!
The 24-year-old has already played two matches for Arsenal in pre-season that’s against the Major League Soccer (MLS) All-Stars and Manchester United in the USA as they continue to prepare for the long season ahead.
While speaking to BBC Sport, Rice, who is the most expensive British player in the Premier League, said that playing in the Champions League is going to be special for him and that it is why he joined Arsenal.
“Not many players get to play in the Champions League so now this year getting that chance to put on a shirt and hear that Champions League anthem, it’s going to be so special,” Rice told BBC Sport in an interview.
He continued: “[..] and that’s why I came to Arsenal to play the biggest competitions, the biggest games, test myself against the best and I feel like it’s a club that deserves to be in the Champions League. I can’t wait to experience it.”
When asked how easy it was for him to make up his mind to join Arsenal, the England international said that it was just a feeling in his gut that it was the right decision.
“I think it was just a feeling. I had the feeling in my gut that was the right decision, the right choice and so far, I’ve only been here like 10 days, but you know I feel like that choice has paid off already.
Rice also added that he feels at home and trusts Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta to bring the best out of him.
“I feel happy here I feel so at home, I don’t feel like the new person at all. The things that I want to add to my game, I feel like Mikel can bring the best out of so all around I have such a good feeling about this club and this squad.” Rice explained.
Declan Rice joined Arsenal from West Ham in a record-setting deal of £105 million.
