On Friday, January 20, 2023, Brazilian defender Dani Alves was charged and remanded with the sexual assault of a 23-year-old woman in a nightclub on New Year’s Eve in Barcelona, Spain.
Owing to those charges, Alves has been in jail since then as he awaits trial.
His ex-wife Dana Dinorah paid him a visit at Brians 2 prison in Barcelona and shortly after, spoke to the media where she defended the former Barcelona right-back against the sexual assault allegations.
According to Football Espana, Dinorah said that everyone that knows Dani Alves knows that he can never dishonour a woman as he is incapable of doing something as heinous as the allegations against him say.
“Dani is incapable of doing something like that. Dani is incapable of dishonouring a woman. They are condemning Dani ahead of time, without having been tried. Dani would be incapable of dishonouring a woman,” Dinorah, who was married to Dani Aves for 10 years said in part.
She added; “I have known him for 22 years. Everyone who is in Dani’s environment, from those who clean his house in Brazil, Barcelona [..] Everyone knows who he is and that he wouldn’t be capable of things like this. The situation hurts a lot.”
Dani is yet to go on trial for these allegations but his recent statements about the matter have been changing which put him in a tight spot. Some of these cases go on for quite some time before a verdict can be reached and if the former Barcelona right-back is convicted, he could be locked up in prison for over 12 years.
