Liverpool vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold played a crucial role in helping his team salvage a vital point against Premier League leaders Manchester City on Saturday.
In an intense game, the right-back scored a nice goal to cancel out Erling Haaland’s opener and silence the home crowd.
After scoring in front of the home supporters, Trent celebrated by putting a finger to his lips in front of them – a moment the right-back said he enjoyed so much.
“It’s always good to celebrate in front of the home fans as the away team, it’s always funny,” he said. “But it was about getting the job over the line and getting that point.”
“I saw an opportunity, I got the ball from Mo and I just thought I have to get it near the target, get it in there across goal and obviously it was a good finish into the bottom corner.”
Despite drawing, Trent was satisfied with the result against the Pep Guardiola’s side.
“For sure [it’ll boost us]. We’ve played a lot better against Man City here before and lost so it’s a good result for us. It’s something we needed as a team and it’ll instill that belief in us that we can go up against a team that won the treble last year, that are top of the league. It shows we’re doing something right.”
Despite a point gained, Liverpool drop to third position on the log and are now two points below new leaders Arsenal, who defeated Brentford 1-0 in the late kickoff on Saturday.
Trent and Liverpool will be back in action on Thursday when they host LASK in the UEFA Europa League. In the Premier League, they will welcome Fulham at Anfield on Sunday.
