Liverpool have had a rather average season compared to their performances in the last four or so seasons.
They find themselves outside the top four, a point behind fourth-placed Manchester United who have a game in hand with three matches remaining to the end of the season.
If the season ends like this, Liverpool will miss out on Champions League football for the first time since 2015/16, and the first time since Jurgen Klopp became their manager.
Being the premium European club competition, it is no secret that almost every player wants and dreams of playing in the Champions League and this partly influences their transfer decisions.
When asked whether Liverpool could face some challenges recruiting players in the summer transfer window in the event that they don’t qualify for the Champions League next season, Klopp said he is not concerned about that one bit because “It is still Liverpool” implying that a Liverpool knock is a different knock.
“It’s still Liverpool so that means it will really be attractive to a lot of players and we should not forget that. That’s why I’m not concerned about that fact.” Klopp answered a reporter during a pre-match press conference earlier today.
However, he acknowledged that the Champions League makes things better and so he would not want to stay away from it for a long time.
“Of course, everything is more difficult without Champions League that’s just how it is especially in the long term so we should not do these kinds of things more often,” Klopp noted.
“But apart from that, it is absolutely okay the situation we’re in from a talking point of view and from a convincing point of view.”
Liverpool are left with three league matches this season starting with relegation-fighting Leicester City on Monday before playing Aston Villa and Southampton.
