Brentford striker Ivan Toney has been banned from football and all football related activities for eights months after having accepted breaking Football Association betting rules.
This was confirmed on Wednesday evening by the independent Regulatory Commission.
Toney’s suspension will start immediately, so he will miss Brentford’s last two Premier League games of the season- at Tottenham on Saturday and Manchester City at home on the final day.
Along with the ban, Toney has been fined £50,000 and warned about his future conduct for 232 breaches of the FA’s betting rules.
He is banned until January 16, 2024 and will not be allowed to train with his team-mates until September 17.
The 27-year old was charged with 262 breaches of FA rule E8 between February 25, 2017, and January 23, 2021.
The FA subsequently withdrew 30 of these breaches and he admitted to the remaining 232.
Toney has been in superb form this season as he’s scored 21 goals in 35 appearances for his club in all competitions.
He also earned his national team cap recently after featuring in England’s 2-0 victory against Ukraine at Wembley Stadium, coming on as an 81st-minute substitute for Harry Kane.
Toney still has the right to appeal this punishment.
