Jeremy Doku was in a class of his own as Manchester City eased past Bournemouth on Saturday with a 6-1 victory to go top of the Premier League table for at least hours.
Man City as expected showed intent from the first whistle as they showered Bournemouth with a barrage of attacks, but the Cherries’ defense was resolute for the first 29 minutes.
City however, kept attacking and maintained their patience, and when Doku opened the scoring, it was a massacre for the visitors.
The Belgian exchanged passes with Nathan Ake and Rodri for the opener in the 30th minute before turning provider for Bernado Silva who scored the second- his first league goal since mid September- three minutes later.
Doku who joined City from Rennes in the summer thought he had notched a brace with his long range shot, but the goal was credited to Akanji who turned out with a deflection.
At the start of the second half, Bournemouth thought they had reduced the deficit when Dominic Solanke netted, but Ryan Christie who provided that would be assist was flagged off for offside.
The visitors after that had a few chances in front of City goal, but to no avail, and it didnt take long for Pep Guardiola’s team to add to their tally.
Their fourth came in the 64th minute through Phil Foden who was scoring his fourth goal against Bournemouth in five matches. You guessed it right, yeah, the assist was from Doku.
The Cherries scored the consolation in the 75th minute, but although their celebrations were delayed by VAR who were checking for a possible offside, Bournemouth goal stood, and it was substitute Luis Sinisterra who scored it.
Silva then found his second of the day. After being sent through by Doku, the Portuguese midfielder raced through from the right to score City’s fifth. He was immediately substituted.
But City were not done! Nathan Eke completed the perfect evening for the Citizens as he sent in Oscar Bobb’s cross straight to the net.
With Arsenal playing later on, and with Tottenham not in action until Monday, Man City move top of the table with this victory.
