Jordi Alba will leave Barcelona by mutual consent at the end of the season, the club has confirmed.
Barcelona confirmed an agreement was reached between the club and Alba to terminate his contract – a year before it expires at the end of the 2023/24 season.
“FC Barcelona and Jordi Alba have reached an agreement to terminate the player’s contract with the club one year earlier than it was due to expire at the end of the 2023/24 season,” read part of the statement released on the website.
“FC Barcelona would like to publicly express its gratitude to Alba for his professionalism, commitment and dedication, and his ever-positive and friendly relationship with all members of the Barça family, and wishes him every fortune in the future. Barça will always be a home for you, Jordi.”
The 34-year old joined Barcelona in 2012 from Valencia, and since then, he has been a mainstay at that Catalan club- playing 458 games, scoring 19 times and providing 91 assists.
He has won 19 major trophies in total with Barcelona which include six La Liga titles, five Copa Del Reys, One Champions League and four Spanish Super Cups.
Alba has so far played 91 games for the Spanish National Football Team and scored nine times.
He becomes the second experienced players who will leave Barcelona at the end of the season after Sergio Busquets announced his summer departure a week ago.
The next move for both the Spanish players is rumoured to be in the Middle East.
