Forward Julian Alvarez’s early strike was the only difference as Premier League champions Manchester City defeated Chelsea at Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
The Argentinian found the back of the with just 12 minutes to help City prevail over the Blues.
Pep Guardiola’s team looked bright in the early exchanges of the game as they searched for an opener early on. Kalvin Phillips, Phil Foden and Sergio Gomes all fired in attempts until Alvarez scored.
The Argentinian was picked out by Cole Palmer to calmly despatch past Kepa Arrizabalanga and into the back of the net for his ninth league goal of the season.
Few moments after, Palmer almost grabbed his goal, but the youngster was denied by Chalobah on the line.
Chelsea first realistic goalscoring attempt fell to former City forward Raheem Sterling, but the forward’s left-footed strike was well saved by Stephen Ortega.
After that chance, Chelsea improved and were the better side of the rest of the minutes of the opening half.
Lewis Hall had his shot blocked by Laporte whole Conor Gallagher hit the post with a headed effort.
After the break, the Blues had a couple of chances to find a leveller, but failed to convert. Hall had his two attempts saved by Ortega, Chalobah glanced his header from a free kick wide while Sterling had his low drive shot also saved by Ortega after beating off Kyle Walker.
Midway the closing half, City thought they had gotten a second, only to be denied by VAR after Riyad Mahrez handled the ball in the leap up to Alvarez’s strike.
The Citizens were crowned Premier League champions for the third successive season on Saturday evening after Arsenal lost 1-0 to Nottingham Forrest.
