Julian Alvarez was the hero as Manchester City outclassed Newcastle to record their second victory of the new season.
The Argentina international struck in the 31st minute of the game after receiving a pass from Mateo Kovacic and this goal was all City needed to claim all three points at the Etihad Stadium.
It was Pep Guardiola’s men who started the better side and they got their reward after half an hour when Alvarez scored with a superb strike into the top corner.
The Citizens neutralized any kind of threat and response from Newcastle however much they tried, especially after going down.
Erling Haaland nearly doubled Manchester City’s lead before the half-time interval and had two more chances in the second half a little bit over the one-hour mark but he fired agonizingly wide on one and Nick Pope saved the other.
In the final ten minutes, Manchester City were all about maintaining ball possession and keeping the lead as Newcastle struggled to see and get hold of the ball.
Although Alvarez scored, Phil Foden was selected as the man of the match for his brilliance and creativity throughout the match. The 23-year-old looks to be filling in well for the injured Kevin De Bruyne, as he created seven chances in this match, his personal best.
The result means Manchester City have recorded their 11th consecutive Premier League win at the Etihad Stadium and it is Newcastle’s 15th loss on this ground, their longest losing streak against any away opponent in the league.
