Crystal Palace have sacked Patrick Vieira as their first team coach effective immediately.
The former Arsenal invincible and France international has been in charge of Crystal Palace for 18 months, having been appointed at the start of the 2021/22 season. Three members of Patrick’s coaching staff – Osian Roberts, Kristian Wilson and Saïd Aïgoun – have also left the club.
This comes after Vieira failed to guide Crystal Palace to a Premier League win in the last 12 matches, something that has left them 12th on the table, just three point off the dreaded zone.
Vieira guided Crystal Palace to a 12th-place finish and to the FA Cup semi-final last season but his bosses feel he has failed to move the club forward and the club’s results in the last few months have not helped his situation at the club.
According to a statement released by Crystal Palace on their website, club Chairman Steve Parish regretted the “difficult decision” to sack Vieira but acknowledged his impact at the club as “significant.”
“It is with enormous regret that this difficult decision has been made. Ultimately, results in recent months have placed us in a precarious league position and we felt a change is necessary to give us the best chance of retaining Premier League status,” Parish said.
He added, “That said, Patrick’s impact since joining us in the summer of 2021 has been significant, and he is held in the highest regard by myself, and all of his colleagues. [..] Patrick has given his all to the club, and we all thank him and his team for their service.”
Crystal Palace play table leaders Arsenal in their next match on Sunday, March 19, 2023, and their last match was a 1-0 defeat against Brighton and Hove Albion.
