Arsenal have confirmed left-back Kieran Tierney has completed a season-long loan move to Spanish side Real Sociedad.
The 26-year-old had not featured in the Gunners’ opening three Premier League matches of the season as he closed on a move. Tierney has played 124 games for the club since signing in 2019 but has suffered from injuries during his time at the club.
“Kieran Tierney has joined La Liga side Real Sociedad on loan for the 2023/24 season. Everyone at Arsenal wishes Kieran all the best this coming season with Real Sociedad.” Arsenal said in a statement published on arsenal.com
Tierney revealed he has spoken to Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard before making the loan switch. Odegaard played for Real Sociedad on loan from Real Madrid during the 2019-20 season.
“My first impressions have been so good, everyone I meet has been so friendly, the city is so nice and the stadium is beautiful. It is a big change but something I am looking forward to so much. It is an exciting challenge, and I am delighted to be here.” Tierney said after completing his move.
He added: “Martin [Odegaard] said the fans and people are so good and really welcoming and ‘you will love your time here’. The club is in a good place, especially over the last few seasons and this season the Champions League, so it is an amazing club.”
Tierney has been linked away from Arsenal since the transfer window opened and the club had been hoping to sell him permanently.
