Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has no interest in taking up the Germany job, his agent Marc Kosicke has insisted.
Germany’s manager’s seat remains vacant after the Germany Football Association (DFB) sacked Hansi Flick last week after Germany lost 4-1 to Japan. A number of names have been mentioned to take over the role and Klopp ranks highly on that list.
But even if the DFB wanted the Liverpool boss to take charge of the national team, Klopp has rejected the idea of leaving Anfield at this time, as confirmed by Kosicke.
“Jurgen has a long-term contract with Liverpool and is not available for the national coaching position.” Kosicke told German sports TV channel Sportchau.
This stance comes as little surprise given that there were no indications that Klopp, who has a contract that runs until 2026, would leave his post at this point.
According to Sportchau, Borussia Dortmund Managing Director Hans-Joachim Watzke has tried to persuade Klopp to take up the role in vain.
Watzke, who is on the DFB’s executive board as the Bundesliga’s representative, worked with Klopp when he was managing Borussia Dortmund over eight years ago.
Hannes Wolf was in the dugout for Germany last night and guided them to a 2-1 win over France, thanks to goals from Thomas Muller and Leroy Sane. This is Germany’s first victory in four matches, ending a losing streak of three.
