The Spanish La Liga governing body has approved Barcelona’s move to bring legendary player Lionel Messi back to the club.
The deal was put on hold as La Liga wanted assurance that Barcelona will be able to afford the financial burden Messi’s return will be on the club, but news reaching us indicate that Barcelona have been given the green light.
Messi announced his departure from PSG on Saturday ahead of the club’s last match of the season that ended in a 3-2 defeat to Clermont Foot.
His return to Barcelona appears imminent, and his father, Jorge Messi who also doubles as his agent has met Barcelona’s president Joan Laporta at his house in Spain. The video of that meeting has been shared on Twitter by Releyo journalist Toni Juanmart.
In the video, Jorge is heard saying, “Messi wants to return to Barca and I would love him to return too. It is an option. Do I trust that he can return? Yes.”
It should be noted that there have been reports of other clubs’ interest in signing Messi especially Saudi Arabian Pro League club Al Hilal, who were willing to offer the player a mouthwatering two-year contract worth several hundreds of million pounds.
But in all this, Messi’s best interest has always been to stay in Europe, and a return to boyhood club Barcelona where he made his star looks his top priority.
According to Forbes.com, Messi is expected to earn €25 million ($27.5 million) a season in Barcelona on a two-year contract and if signed in time, he could be part of Barcelona’s pre-season tour of the United States.
