Spanish club Sevilla have sacked manager Jorge Sampaoli to bring the number of managers the club has sacked this season to two.
Sampaoli replaced Julen Lopetegui who was also relieved of his managerial duties after a poor run of form last year in October. Lopetegui is now managing Wolverhampton Wanderers in the English Premier League.
The 63-year-old Argentine manager leaves Sevilla in 14th position with just two points from the relegation zone.
Sevilla have recorded only one win in their last five games in La Liga. They lost miserably 6-0 to Atletico Madrid two weeks ago. Sampaoli however, managed to guide them to their favourite tournament, the Europa League quarterfinals where they will play against Manchester United next month.
Sampaoli won 13, drew six, and lost 12 in the 31 matches he managed for Sevilla in all competitions.
“Following yesterday’s defeat at Getafe, which leaves the side just above the relegation zone, the club have decided to part ways with the Argentine coach ahead of the international break. [..] Sampaoli will no longer lead today’s training session, scheduled for 18.00, while the club is already working on recruiting a new coach as soon as possible.
“Sevilla FC would like to thank Jorge Sampaoli for his dedication and commitment at the club and wish him the best of luck in his future.” the statement on sevillafc.es read in part.
