Frank Lampard’s second spell as Chelsea manager ended in a stalemate following the Blues 1-1 draw against Newcastle.
Anthony Gordon scored first for Newcastle but Chelsea got their equalizer through Kieran Trippiers’ own goal.
Overall, Chelsea were impressive throughout the game as they created chances after chance, but lacked that final touch upfront to turn chances to goals.
Raheem Sterling had three chances while Thiago Silva, Noni Madueke, Christian Pulisic and Joao Felix had one each, but all failed to get the ball past Martin Dubravka and into the back of the net.
Apart from Gordon’s goal, Newcastle only other realistic goalscoring chances fell to Miguel Almiron, who tried to loop Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalanga in the opening half.
Despite playing well and securing a draw against already UCL qualified Newcastle, Chelsea finish the Premier League season with their lowest points ever (44) and 12th on the log.
For Newcastle, they finish fourth on the log with 71 points and are back in the UEFA Champions League for the first time since 2003.
Former PSG and Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino is expected to be named Chelsea’s new manager in the next few hours.
