Leicester City are reportedly interested in bringing Manchester United captain Harry Maguire back to the club on loan.
The 30-year-old made a record-breaking transfer to Manchester United in 2019 worth £80 million and impressed at Old Trafford in the first two seasons.
However, a string of costly and sometimes careless mistakes has seen the England international’s minutes at Manchester United diminish, especially under new manager Erik Ten Hag.
A move away could be the right choice next season and former club Leicester City are ready to welcome him with open arms. Brendan Rogers’ is currently involved in a relegation battle thanks to a leaky defence that has seen them concede 49 goals in 28 matches, the most by any team in the Premier League this season.
Leicester City believe Maguire, who played 76 times during his two seasons at the club, could fix their defensive problems next season. Maguire’s contract expires in June 2025 but he would like to have regular game time so he can make it to the England squad that will go to Germany for Euro 2024.
Maguire has remained in the good books of England manager Gareth Southgate even though his playing time at Manchester United has been limited but you can’t be sure how long that will last when you’re not playing regularly.
One factor that would work against Leicester City’s pursuit of Maguire is if they get relegated to the Championship. They are currently 18th on the table and Maguire could attract other clubs both in the Premier League and abroad if Leicester get cut.
