Leicester City have sacked their men’s first-team manager Brendan Rogers after four years in charge, the club have announced.
Brendan Rogers left Celtic to join Leicester City in February 2019 and helped the club finish fifth in his first two full seasons at the King Power stadium before guiding them to their first FA Cup final victory in 2021.
However, things have not gone well for him this season! The Foxes collected only two wins from the first 10 matches of the season losing seven and drawing one in a poor run of form that saw them languishing at the bottom of the table.
After the World Cup, Brendan Rogers’ men registered some wins that helped them leave the relegation zone but last night’s 2-1 loss to Crystal Palace made it four losses in the last five and had them drop into the relegation zone once again. The club hierarchy is not pleased with his performances and decided to show him the exit.
“Performances and results during the current season have been below our shared expectations. It had been our belief that continuity and stability would be key to correcting our course, particularly given our previous achievements under Brendan’s management.
“Regrettably, the desired improvement has not been forthcoming and, with 10 games of the season remaining, the Board is compelled to take alternative action to protect our Premier League status,” Leicester City’s Chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha said in a statement published on the club’s website.
Srivaddhanaprabha acknowledged Rogers’ contribution and achievements with Leicester including his leadership during the coronavirus pandemic, something that the club will always be grateful for and cherish his place in the club’s history.
“The achievements of the team under Brendan’s management speak for themselves – we’ve experienced some of our finest footballing moments under his guidance and will always be grateful to him and his staff for the heights they helped us to reach on the pitch.
“Off the pitch, Brendan embraced the culture of the Club and helped cultivate an outstanding developmental environment, particularly during the transition to Seagrave, and provided strong leadership during the unprecedented challenge of the coronavirus pandemic. His place in Leicester City history is assured,” The statement reads in part.
First Team Coaches Adam Sadler and Mike Stowell will take charge of Leicester in the meantime as the search for a new manager begins.
Brendan Rodgers, who has previously managed Watford, Reading, Swansea, Liverpool, and Celtic becomes the 12th Premier League manager to be sacked this season.
