2015/16 Premier League champions Leicester City FC have reached a verbal agreement with Enzo Maresca to take over as their new manager.
Maresca has been Pep Guardiola’s assistant manager at Manchester City during the treble-winning 2022/23 season. Before becoming Manchester City’s assistant manager, Maresca was the club’s U23 manager.
Maresca was offered the job yesterday, Thursday, June 15, and Sky Sports reports that he has accepted the offer, only working out some details in his contract and then he puts pen to paper.
Leicester parted with Dean Smith at the end of the season which saw them relegated to the Championship.
Smith was hired on an interim basis to try and save Leicester from relegation and it was believed he could be retained on a permanent basis had he managed to keep the club in the top flight.
Smith replaced Brendan Rodgers whose FA Cup title win in 2021 couldn’t save his job after a woeful performance for the bigger part of last season.
Maresca worked as an assistant manager at West Ham under Manuel Pellegrini, at Ascoli under Fulvio Fiorin as well as a technical coach at Sevilla under Joaquin Caparros.
