Leondro Trossard left his manager Mikel Arteta sing praises for the Belgian after his Man of the Match performance in Arsenal’s 3-0 win over Fulham at the Craven Cottage on Sunday.
The Belgian notched a hattrick of assists as he set up Gabriel Magalhaes, Gabriel Martinelli and Martin Odegaard’s goals enroute to Arsenal’s convincing victory.
Trossard was forced off injured last weekend during Arsenal’s dramatic 3-2 win over Bournemouth, but he was in no forgiving mood against Marco Silva’s team.
His performance was worth every praise and that’s exactly what Arteta offered after the game.
“When we talk about composure and finding the right colour when it’s looking really blurry in the box and many players rush passes, he’s the opposite.” Arteta, speaking at a post-match press conference said.
“He got three assists and could have scored two. I think he was really impressive. We needed him today and his contribution was superb.
“It’s football intelligence. He’s really clever to understand straight away what we want, what’s required. He’s executed it really well.”
Trossard has thus far enjoyed his stay at Arsenal, but it should be remembered that the former Brighton forward was just a second option for the Gunner after they lost the battle of signing Mykhailo Mudryk to their London rivals Chelsea.
Arteta also had the return of Gabriel Jesus to be jubilant about. The Brazilian had not played for Arsenal since November last year when he got injured at the World Cup. He was introduced as a late substitute and Arteta couldn’t hide his delight.
“Big boost. The first step today. We didn’t know if it was the right game. He said to me a few days ago, ‘I’m still missing something.’
“Yesterday I looked in his eyes and he said, ‘I’m ready’. I said, ‘OK!’
“So then, we had the opportunity to throw him in. It’s that first step to give him the big boost. He looks free, he looks ready and straight away he generated those two big chances. It’s great to have him back.”
