Arsenal have had a great campaign this term compared to a few previous seasons and although they are set to walk away trophyless, they will take pride in qualifying for the Champions League for the first time since 2017.
As such, the club looks to reinforce their squad with new arrivals in the summer and that means some current players will make way for the new ones. Soccer Scoop understands the Gunners could let five players go in the summer transfer.
Granit Xhaka
The Swiss captain has been at the club for seven years and this has been one of the most productive ones. He has scored seven goals and provided seven assists in all competitions for Arsenal but reports suggest this could be his last season at the club. Bayer Leverkusen are front-runners to get his signature.
Kieran Tierney
The Scottish left-back signed with Arsenal from Celtic in 2019 and quickly established himself as a starter for the club. However, a couple of injuries led to his dip in form and the Arrival of Oleksandr Zinchenko greatly diminished his playing time. It has been reported that Newcastle United are monitoring his situation and could put in a bid for him in the summer.
Folarin Balogun
Balogun has been in blistering form during his loan spell with French side Stade de Reims. He has scored 19 goals, made two assists in the French Ligue 1 and is in the running for the golden boot in a league that has stars like Kylian Mbappe, Neymar Jr and Lionel Messi. This great form has made the striker ask his parent club Arsenal for a guaranteed starting position or else he’s given the green light to move on.
Arsenal already have Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah in Balogun’s position and are both on long-term big contracts so the club could let Balogun go in the summer if a favourable bid comes through. AC Milan are reported to be interested in the youngster to replace or play alongside the aging Olivier Giroud.
Reiss Nelson
After several loan spells, Nelson spent this entire season at boyhood club Arsenal but he’s also been starved of minutes. The 23-year-old feels it is time to seek first-team football elsewhere and has rejected a contract extension already. Nelson will be a free agent at the end of the season and we understand he has interest from Premier League and other European clubs.
Rob Holding
Holding is another player that could exit Arsenal in the summer. The club relied on him after losing William Saliba to injury in the run-in but his performances had them lose their top spot to Manchester City and was subsequently dropped for January signing Jacob Kiwior. If a good offer comes through for him in the summer, he could be let go.
