For the fourth time this season, Liverpool came from behind to win, beating Austrian side LASK 3-1 in their Europa League Group E opener.
It was a poor first half from the Reds! And rightly so, found themselves behind at the break after Florian Flecker put LASK in the lead with a powerful shot from the corner kick brought in by Sascha Horvath in the 14th minute.
But they tried to save face! Harvey Elliot put an inviting cross into the LASK box, however, Darwin Nunez headed it over the bar.
Liverpool got another chance from the corner kick in the 36th minute when captain Virgil Van Dijk connected with Nunez but the Uruguayan saw his header punched out by LASK goalkeeper Tobias Lawal to make sure LASK went into the half-time break with the lead.
After the restart, Jurgen Klopp’s men were handed an opportunity to level matters when LASK defender Phillip Ziereis tripped Luiz Diaz in the box and after the referee signaling for a penalty, Nunez calmly converted it in the 56th minute.
Six minutes later, LASK wanted to use the corner again to restore the lead, but Liverpool goalkeeper Caomhin Kelleher denied them, only for the latter to concede the second goal a minute later through Diaz.
Gravenberch later made way for Mohammed Salah due to injury, and the Egyptian scored Liverpool’s third goal with a clever nutmeg against Lawal to send the ball into the far corner.
After this win, Liverpool comfortably sit at the top of Group E, with the other game in the group between Union SG and Toulouse ending in a 1-all draw.
