Liverpool FC have confirmed Jordan Henderson has left the club to join Saudi Arabian side Al Ettifaq
The announcement comes less than 24 hours after the English midfielder bid farewell to a club he had been at for 12 years. After that farewell message, he was also pictured training with his new side, Al Ettifaq.
“Liverpool Football Club can confirm Jordan Henderson has completed a transfer to Al-Ettifaq.
“Everybody at Liverpool Football Club wishes to place on record their thanks and gratitude for everything Jordan Henderson did for the club during his 12 years as a Red.”
The 33-year old leaves the Reds as the captain with most trophies won. He won the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup, Super Cup and Club World Cup in his 12-year stay.
Henderson joins an Al Ettifaq side coached by former Liverpool captain and legend Steven Gerrard for a reported £12 million fee, plus add-ons.
He becomes the latest midfielder to depart the Anfield side after James Milner did so early this month for Brighton and Hove Albion following the expiration of his contract.
Fabinho is also rumoured to be on his way to Saudi Arabia this summer, with Ngolo Kante’s Al Ittihad interested.
Liverpool have made additions themselves. They have so far signed two players including Alexis Mac Alister from Brighton and Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Liepzig. They are also in negotiations to sign youngster Romeo Lavia from Southampton, who is valued at £50m.
Defender Virgil Van Dijk is expected to replace Henderson as the captain of the club.
