Argentina midfielder Alexis Mac Allister scored a 99th-minute penalty to help Brighton snatch a dramatic 1-0 win over Manchester United on Thursday.
The penalty was awarded after VAR intervened deep in the injury time after Luke Shaw handed the ball.
Mac Allister stepped up and calmly slotted the penalty into the roof of the net to ensure Brighton continue with their European surge.
Before Mac Allister scored the solitary goal, both sides squandered some golden chances to break the deadlock.
In the first four minutes of the game, there was chances at both ends. Antony dragged his shot wide with only goalkeeper Jason Steele to break while on the other end, Kauro Mitoma got his shot blocked by David De Gea’s face after the Japanese had intercepted Victor Lindelof’s pass.
Few minutes later, Mitoma came close again for an opener but he sent his shot inches wide of the far post.
Before the break, United were denied by Stelle twice after the goalkeeper prevented both Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial’s excellent strikes.
Brighton looked more threatening in the second half than United as they dominated in possession and created a couple of chances.
Mitoma was wasteful from two of his chances, substitute Solly March let fly his effort just a few inches wide while Pervis Estupinan had his powerful shot from outside the box easily saved by De Gea.
United’s only realistic goalscoring chances at Brighton’s goal fell to Bruno Fernandes, but Steele pushed away the Portuguese shot.
United suffer their eighth loss this season and remain seated fourth on the log with 63 points with five games to play. They are now four points above fifth-placed Liverpool, who have played a game more.
For Brighton, they move to sixth place on the log with 55 points garnered in 32 games
