Manchester City are set to miss the services of defender-cum-midfielder John Stones longer than they had earlier thought.
The club manager Pep Guardiola has provided an update on the England international’s injury that has kept him out of action for the past couple of weeks, and it is not good for the City fans.
Guardiola confirmed that Stones will stay on the sidelines until the end of the international break as he continues to recover from a muscle injury he sustained during the club’s pre-season tour of Asia.
The international breaks will be between September 4 and 12, so this means the 29-year-old will miss Manchester City’s matches against Sheffield United next weekend on August 27 and Fulham the week after on September 2.
Stones could also miss England’s Euro qualifier against Ukraine and a friendly against Scotland next month.
Stones joins club captain Kevin de Bruyne who was ruled out last week for an even longer period due to a hamstring injury. The Belgian has already undergone surgery and has started a rehabilitation journey that will take up to four months.
Although Man City have a big squad of great quality that provides cover in case a player is injured, the quality or system of play could be distorted a bit when starters in important positions get injured for a long period of time.
