Manchester City have tabled a second improved contract offer to defender Kyle Walker in a bid to keep him at the club.
City had offered Walker a new deal in June but the England international rejected it in favour of a proposal from Bayern Munich, despite Manchester City’s offer being higher.
Walker was keen on a move to Bayern at the end of last season, with the 33-year-old unhappy with his minutes last season. He played 39 matches for Manchester City last season, starting 31 of those.
Ahead of pre-season, Walker communicated his decision to Bayern Munich and then to Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola. He has a year remaining on his current contract.
Walker travelled with Manchester City to Asia for the club’s pre-season tour where Guardiola confirmed Bayern were in talks to sign the defender but added that City would “fight” to keep him.
There was, though, no resolution between City and the German champions in those talks, before the Manchester side made their second contract offer worth more than the first.
Bayern have been frustrated at the lack of progress on the deal and there is a growing fear that Walker may remain at City this summer.
While speaking to reporters earlier today, Guardiola said that Walker and Bernardo Silva are so important to Manchester and wants them to stay at the club.
“Kyle and Bernardo Silva, what can I say? They are so important to us. We want them and will do everything (to keep them). We will do everything. Replacing these two would be so difficult,” Guardiola said.
Since joining Manchester City from Tottenham Hotspur in 2017, Walker has won five Premier League titles, two FA Cups, four Carabao Cups and last season’s Champions League.
