Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has been named the Premier League’s Player of the Season, and also the Young Player of the Year.
Haaland has been sensational for Manchester City this season and his 36 goals in 35 Premier League matches helped his club win the third consecutive league title.
Haaland in his inaugural season has broken and set records in the league this season and he is the most deserving of both awards according to the public, the 20 captains of this season’s Premier League clubs, and a panel of experts that voted.
Haaland’s 36 Premier League goals mean he broke the previous record of 34 in a single Premier League campaign that had been shared by greats Andy Cole and Alan Shearer that had stood for nearly three decades.
Haaland also has eight assists in the league, which means he has equalled Arsenal legend Thierry Henry for the most goal involvements in a single league with 44, and he has a chance of breaking it during Manchester City’s last game of the season on Sunday against Brentford.
While talking about these accolades, the elated 22-year-old said; “I am honoured to have become the first player to win both awards in the same season. It has been an incredible first season in the Premier League and lifting the trophy last weekend in front of our fans at the Etihad was a very special moment for me.”
Haaland saw off competition from teammate Kevin De Bruyne, Arsenal duo Bukayo Saka and his captain Martin Odegaard, Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford, Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane and Newcastle United defender Kieran Trippier.
