Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has named the team he thinks will go all the way to win the English Premier League title this season.
The five-time Premier League winner expressed his concern about Arsenal’s inexperience in this kind of situation, sighting that the Gunners may crumble along the way due to the weight of the pressure and the anxiety generated towards the final crossover.
Arsenal hold an eight point gap ahead of their title rivals Manchester City who could reduce it to five points with a win over Liverpool on Saturday before the Gunners take on Leads later in the day.
While speaking to CNN, Rooney said: “I think it’s going to be intriguing because Arsenal have not been in this position for along time, and it can be a lot of pressure that goes with that.
“Certainly when you start getting into the last seven or eight games of the season, that’s when the pressure starts. I’m really interested to see if they can sustain what they have been doing all season.
“I think Manchester City will be there. They’ve won the League the last few years, they’ve won the titles, they have a very experienced coach in winning titles in Guardiola so I’m intrigued to see if Arsenal hold out or if City can use their experience in previous years and nick the title off then.
“I think City will pip them to it. I think United are almost out of it now-not fully- but almost. If you’re asking me who I want to win it between Arsenal and City, then I hope Arsenal do win it.”
Arsenal are hoping to win their first title in 19 years and Mikel Arteta does not want to put his hope in other clubs to influence the swing of the title to his advantage, but wants the job to be done by their input.
In one of the interviews with the club’s official website, Arteta said that “We can not control the outcome of other clubs. All we can control is what we do every single day. How we behave, how we train, how we communicate, how we control our energy and the message we send to our people.”
