Manchester United have been actively pursuing Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount for weeks and submitted three bids for the 24-year-old.
However, Chelsea rejected all the bids as they didn’t meet the club’s £65 million valuation of the England international, the last one being £55 million including add-ons. Chelsea countered it with £58 million plus £7 million in add-ons and asked for a meeting with Manchester United.
Now, Manchester United feel frustrated about Chelsea’s insistence and have decided to move on from Mount and look elsewhere for a midfielder, with Brighton and Hove Albion’s hot cake Moises Caicedo an option. Caicedo will cost even more than Mount, but Manchester United feel his £80 million price tag is worth it.
Man United feel Mason Mount’s £65 million price is too high. Mount has a year left on his contract with Chelsea and refused to sign an extension a few months ago because he wasn’t satisfied with the wages the Blues were proposing in the new contract.
Mount is keen on a move from the club he has played for since 2005 when he joined the academy aged just six. If he doesn’t sign an extension and Chelsea don’t let their guard down to lower his asking fee, he will leave the club as a free agent when his contract expires at the end of next season.
Manchester United want to reinforce their squad for next season and the midfield is one area they want to fix ahead of a long season that includes Champions League football.
According to Daily Mail, Manchester United’s offer for Mount is still on the table if Chelsea change their mind, but the Red Devils have now refocused their energy on other players.
