Manchester United have reached an agreement with Chelsea to sign Mason Mount in a deal worth up to £60 million.
The Red Devils had a third bid worth £55 million rejected last week and reports said they were looking elsewhere after being frustrated by Chelsea. However, the two parties finally reached an agreement on Thursday where Manchester United will pay an initial fee of £55 million plus £5 million in add-ons for Mount.
Mount has been given permission to undergo a medical and finalise personal terms, with the clubs set to put the finishing touches to paperwork. He will sign a contract until 2028 at Manchester United, with the option for a further year.
United had warned Chelsea that they would not go above their improved offer of £50 million plus £5 million a few days ago and were considering alternatives after Chelsea countered their bid with £58 million plus £7 million in add-ons.
With Manchester United’s offer still on the table, talks between the clubs went on earlier this week and reached a positive conclusion for all parties.
Mount had a year left to run on his deal at Stamford Bridge but contract negotiations towards the end of last season fell apart and Chelsea decided to cash in on his exit.
The 24-year-old is a product of Chelsea’s Cobham academy and has made 195 senior appearances for the club since his first-team debut in 2017, scoring 33 goals in all competitions.
Mount spent two seasons out on loan at Vitesse Arnhem and Derby County but became a regular starter during Frank Lampard’s first spell at Chelsea.
