Premier League champions Manchester City have been named as the World’s most valuable football club brand.
This is according to the Brand Finance Football 50 2023 report published on Monday.
This is the first time that City has topped the report and now overtake reigning European champions Real Madrid.
City, who still have a chance to win a historical treble this season, have seen their brand value soar 15 per cent this year to £1.29billion.
“Manchester City has achieved an extraordinary feat by surpassing Real Madrid to become the champion of football club brands,” Hugo Hensley, Head of Sports Services at Brand Finance said.
“For five years, the City team has exerted its dominance in English football, securing four Premier League titles in the past five seasons.
‘However, the club’s performance in this year’s ranking highlights that Manchester City are performing off the pitch in terms of building a strong brand and attracting fans and sponsors, and setting the stage for what could be an iconic Champions League final against Inter Milan.”
Madrid’s brand valued has dropped three per cent to £1.26billion while Barcelona comes third in ranking, with a five per cent increase to £1.185bn.
Brands of United (£1.175bn) and Liverpool ( £1.173bn) come in fourth and fifth.
PSG and Bayern occupy the sixth and seventh spots before three Premier League clubs ( Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea) close out the top 10.
Despite Man City being the most valuable football club brand, Brand Finance has said Real remain the strongest brand in World football and are most likely to be considered ‘the best club in the club’ by fans.
Furthermore, Newcastle United are the fastest-growing football brand in the World following their 33 per cent increase due to Saudi takeover in 2021.
