Manchester City received little resistance against Aston Villa as they eased past Unai Emery’s side to reclaim the second position in the Premier League.
Following Man United’s 2-0 win over Leeds earlier on, the Citizens had been demoted to the third position, but goals from Rodri, Ilkay Gundogan and Riyad Mahrez ensured they returned second while dislodging their neighbors.
Rodri from a corner headed home the opener, before Mahrez scoring from a penalty to close the business for Pep Guardiola’s men.
Aston Villa through Ollie Watkins got one for themselves in the 61st minute, but it could only pass for a consolation.
Despite not appearing on the score sheet, Erling Haaland came in handy with an assist for Gundogan’s goal. The Norwegian who was subbed off at halftime leads the current top scoring chart in the EPL with his 25 goals.
Manchester City who were returning to winning ways following their 1-0 defeat to Tottenham last weekend are now just three points behind table leaders Arsenal. This follows the Gunner’s one all draw against Brentford yesterday.
The two sides face off on Wednesday in the top of the table three-pointer.
Aston Villa meanwhile who lost terribly to Leicester last time out remain staged eleventh in the table standings.
