Manchester United have agreed a €51 million (£43.9m) fee plus €4m in add-ons with Inter Milan for goalkeeper Andre Onana.
The 27-year-old is only left to complete his medical exam which could either be done in Manchester or elsewhere, and then join Manchester United on their US pre-season tour.
Man United officials are still working on the last details of the deal after which an official announcement by the club will be made.
The former Cameroon international already agreed on personal terms like salary and bonuses at Old Trafford. He is set to sign a long-term contract that will keep him there until 2028, with the option for an additional year.
Onana has been keen on a move to Old Trafford, where he will reunite with former manager Erik ten Hag, who he worked with at Ajax Amsterdam in the Netherlands.
The two know each other well. Onana was a regular at Ajax under the Dutchman and is well-versed in the manager’s approach.
His passing range and confidence with the ball at his feet, which are required of a modern goalkeeper, are exceptional. Manchester United fans have already expressed their excitement for finally having a ball-playing goalkeeper in their first team.
United’s interest in Onana grew stronger after the expiration of former goalkeeper David De Gea’s contract on June 30 and contact with Inter Milan was made immediately which has now resulted in securing his services.
Onana started his professional career at Ajax after coming through the Barcelona youth ranks.
