Manchester United have qualified for next season’s UEFA Champions League after beating Chelsea 4-1 at Old Trafford.
Coming into this game, the Red Devils needed just a single point to secure UCL qualification, but they got three thanks to Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford’s goals.
Casemiro broke the deadlock early in the opening half after heading in a well driven Christian Eriksen freekick. Martial doubled the lead just before the break after tapping the ball into an empty net after Jadon Sacho found him unmarked.
In the closing half, Fernandes after being fouled in the area by Wesley Fofana, converted from the spot to make it 3-0
The fourth came soon afterwards following Fofana’s misplaced pass that fell to Fernandes. The Portuguese then set up Rashford, who scored on a second attempt to add salt to Chelsea’s wounds.
Joao Felix came off the bench for Kai Havertz to score Chelsea’s consolation goal just before the end of the game.
Chelsea had a couple of chances to score before Felix’s consolation, but were wasteful.
Both Mykhailo Mudryk and Havertz missed sitters in the opening half while youngster Lewis Hall had his shot saved by David De Gea.
United also could have scored more, but Kepa made a brilliant save to deny Eriksen while also, substitute Alejandro Garnacho rattled the crossbar after coming on.
With the victory, United move to third spot on the log with 72 points in 37 games. For Chelsea, they remain 12th with 43 points.
United will end their Premier League campaign with a Fulham match-up while Chelsea will play already UCL-qualified Newcastle United.
