Sevilla knocked Manchester United out of the Europa League with a convincing 3-0 victory at Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium in Spain. Jose Luis Mendilibar’s side produced one of their best performance this season to book their place in the last-4 thanks to Youssef En-Nesyri’s double and Loïc Badé goal.
Both En-Nesyri’s goals were gifts though, from Harry Maguire and David De gea respectively who failed to clear their lines.
Having come from two goals down to secure a 2-all at Old Trafford, Sevilla started off the game the brightest and got their first goal in the 8th minute after poor play from Maguire and De gea. The United goalkeeper played a risky pass to his skipper who got dispossessed by Eric Lamela for the Sevilla midfielder to pass it to En-Nesyri. The Moroccan striker then beat off De gea with ease to give his side the lead.
Just before the break, the Spanish side thought that they had scored a second through Luis Ocampo, but the goal was ruled out for offside after VAR intervention.
Immediately after the break, Sevilla finally went two goals up after Bade’s shoulder effort which looped past De gea after an excellent Ivan Rakitic in-swinging corner.
Few moments later, Sevilla came close to making it 3-0 but De gea made a brilliant stop to deny Ocampos, who attempted to tap in from close range following En-Nesyri’s header.
Just after the hour mark, United fashioned their first realistic goalscoring chances at Sevilla’s goal but Yacine Bounou stretched to parry away Casemiro’s shot.
Sevilla finally got their third goal of the game in the 80th minute after another goalkeeping error by De gea, who came long way out to clear Acuna’s long ball but the goalkeeper failed to connect well with the ball and it bounced to En-Nesyri’s, who hit the ball so fast into an empty net.
With that 3-0 humiliating result, Manchester United gets eliminated from the Europa League at the quarterfinal stage after a 5-2 aggregate defeat.
This is the sixth consecutive season that Red Devils have been eliminated from a European Knockout competition by a Spanish side.
Furthermore, United have now failed to beat Sevilla in all their five past meetings in European Competitions.
