Manchester United are still in talks with Inter Milan over ex-Cameroon goalkeeper Andre Onana.
United submitted an opening bid of £38.5 million (€45m) to Inter Milan for Onana but Inter want £51 million (€60m) for the 27-year-old.
Onana’s contract still has four years left on it since he signed for five years after transferring from Ajax Amsterdam last summer so it is understandable why Inter Milan’s price is that high.
Onana has made clear his intention to move to Manchester United but Inter Milan also made it clear he will stay at the club as his contract says unless Manchester United or any other club submit an improved offer. Onana will report for Inter Milan’s pre-season on July 13.
Inter Milan are lining up a bid for Chelsea’s on-loan striker Romelu Lukaku and want to use the funds received from the future sale of their players to fund the Lukaku transfer.
According to Sky Sports, Inter Milan director Piero Ausilio said that the club will evaluate all offers for Onana and that talks with Manchester United can yield a compromise where both clubs agree on a fee.
Onana worked with current Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag during his time at Ajax and the two are keen on reuniting at Old Trafford as the Red Devils look for a replacement for the out-of-contract David De Gea.
Soccer Scoop understands that Man United’s second bid could be in the region of £40 million plus £5 million in add-ons, but the club is also exploring other goalkeeping options like Feyenoord’s Justin Bijlow, Brentford’s David Raya and FC Porto’s Diogo Costa if they fail to land Onana.
