Manchester United are reportedly exploring a move for Chelsea’s left-back Marc Cucurella after Luke Shaw was ruled out for an extended period with a muscle injury.
According to several reports, the two clubs have held informal talks and Chelsea would consider a potential loan move, although there is still a big chance the 25-year-old could stay at Stamford Bridge this summer.
Cucurella has been an unused substitute in Chelsea’s first three Premier League matches, with Ben Chilwell and Levi Colwill selected at left wing-back and left centre-back respectively by manager Mauricio Pochettino.
Manchester United had hoped Shaw would miss weeks but after confirmation by the club’s doctors that he would be sidelined for months, Cucurella is now one of the short-term replacements the club are considering.
With Shaw’s primary backup Tyrell Malacia also nursing a lengthy injury he sustained in pre-season, Alvaro Fernandez is the only fit alternative left-back Manchester United currently have.
Manager Erik Ten Hag has played Diogo Dalot in that position recently and it is believed that if they don’t get Cucurella, the Portuguese could play there interchangeably with Fernandez.
