It is increasingly getting clear that Harry Maguire will leave Manchester United this summer.
The 30-year-old England international fell out of favour with Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag last season after making a string of costly errors. As such, Maguire started just 16 matches the entire season, most of which were cup matches.
Now, news reaching us indicates that the club have set a £50 million price tag on Maguire for any club that would like to acquire his services.
It should be remembered that Man United bought Maguire from Leicester City in 2019 at a then world-record transfer fee for any defender of £80 million.
Maguire had put up stellar performances for the Foxes for a couple of seasons, so the price looked justified. However, the same cannot be spoken of his time in the red side of Manchester.
At £50 million, pundits and fans alike feel the price is too high for Maguire and United might find it hard to get a club that would willingly pay that.
Maguire still has two years left on his contract at Old Trafford, but ten Hag prefers playing Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez or Victor Lindelof ahead of him.
Although he still features in England manager Gareth Southgate’s squads, Southgate warned that he could get dropped if he doesn’t play regularly for his club.
Maguire is willing to improve and fight for his position in the starting lineup, and it is why he has been involved in intense training in Portugal with former elite Chelsea defender Ricardo Carvalho in the previous few days.
