Marcus Rashford scored twice and was involved in the third as Manchester United beat Leicester City 3-0 in the Premier League to close the gap on second placed Manchester City to 3 points.
The game kicked off with both teams displaying a cautious approach but the hosts created the first chance when Bruno Fernandez forced Leicester to clear for a corner kick that yielded no fruits.
Soon the visitors raided United when Harvey Barnes exchanged passes with Kelechi Iheanacho before unleashing a hard shot but David De Gea made a reflex save for a corner kick in the 7th minute.
Victor Lindelof’s perfect block denied Iheanacho in the 9th minute as Leicester attacked the hosts relentlessly. Iheanacho’s header was kept out by De Gea in the 20th minute as the game became intense.
Manchester United broke the deadlock when on form Rashford who can’t stop scoring latched onto a brilliant pass from Fernandez to smoothly place the ball into the back of the net for the opener.
Alejandro Garnacho fired wide a rebound from a clearance by Leicester following Fernandez’s freekick in the 32nd minute but the best chance was initiated by Diogo Dalot four minutes later when he dribbled from his half before exchanging with Fernandez. But he missed connecting the ball into the net as he was a fraction of a second late.
After recess, Erik Ten Hag’s men created several chances but they were wasted . Wasteful Wout Weghorst was the villain this time when he attempted an overhead kick infront of goal following a cross from Fernandez in the 52nd minute.
Four minutes later, Rashford beat the offside trap before racing clear on goal to double the lead following a neat pin point pass by Fred.
The Brazilian was later substituted for Scott McTominay who kept Leicester at bay following his return in the middle of the park.
Rashford then completed the damage when he initiated the move that resulted to the 3rd goal of the tie in 62nd minutes. The prolific attacker picked Jadon Sancho with a defence splitting pass before Sancho exchanging with Fernandez to slot the ball home for the third goal in the 61st minutes.
United ran riot over hapless Leicester for the reminder of the game including a last minute opportunity for Weghorst to stretch the lead but the Dutchman squandered the chance . The game ended 3-0 after Rashford’s heroics once again.
Manchester United remain in third place while Leicester stay 14th.
