Manchester United manager, Erik Ten Hag admitted he learnt about Marcus Rashford’s partying the night after their humiliating 3-0 defeat to Manchester City at Old Trafford, but says the forward has since apologised for his actions.
Like he’s been this season, Rashford was a no show against Man City as United suffered their fifth league defeat this season, but he opted to celebrate his birthday just hours after that defeat.
Rashford is currently undergoing a torrid start to the season! The 26-year-old has out of the 14 times he’s featured for United this term managed just one goal.
“Yes, I am aware of it, I spoke with him about it,” Ten Hag said while addressing the media on Friday. “It’s unacceptable. I told him. He apologised. And that’s it. For the rest, it’s an internal matter.”
It is public knowledge that Ten Hag has fallen out with Jadon Sancho due to ‘indiscipline’, but when asked if Rashford is not matching the Dutchman’s standards, Ten Hag defended the England forward.
“Your suggestion is not right,” Ten Hag said. “He’s fitting in [with Ten Hag’s policies]. He’s very motivated to put things right. I know which effort he’s putting in. He’s totally with us.
“He makes a mistake but it doesn’t say he isn’t fitting in. I see him every day, on the training, what he’s doing, I know. Make one mistake. But also, off the pitch what he’s doing, how he lives and I’m sure he’s doing everything right to help the team to perform and to let us win.”
It should be remembered that this is not the first time Rashford is coming out on the wrong side the Club’s policy.
He was left out of the starting line-up for a Premier League game at Wolves last season because he overslept and arrived late for a team meeting.
