Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard has signed a new long-term contract at the Emirates Stadium.
With no option for an additional year, the Norwegian playmaker has extended his contract until the summer of 2028, becoming the club’s highest-paid player in the process.
Odegaard joins Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, Gabriel Magalhaes, William Saliba, Aaron Ramsdale, and Reiss Nelson as players who have renewed their contracts at Arsenal in the past 12 months.
“Signing a new contract was a really easy decision for me for lots of reasons. Mainly what we are doing right now as a club is special, and I want to be a part of that. I’m really excited for what’s to come here. I’ve found a place where I can be really settled and call my home,” Odegaard told arsenal.com.
“My story is a bit different maybe, as I moved around different clubs since I was 16. At Arsenal, since the first day, I’ve felt great and this is definitely my home now.
“I just want to say thanks to everyone working at the club and of course, our fantastic supporters. I will continue to give everything to bring success to this club in the years to come.”
Odegaard was first acquired by Arsenal on a temporary loan from Real Madrid for the second half of the 2020–21 campaign, and after making an immediate impact, his stay was made permanent for a reasonable £30 million fee.
In 112 games for the Gunners, the former Stromsgodset starlet, whose previous contract was set to expire in 2025, has now scored 27 goals and provided 15 assists.
Most recently, he scored his team’s fourth goal in Arsenal’s 4-0 Champions League thrashing of PSV Eindhoven.
Odegaard won the PFA Team of the Year honor, one Premier League Player of the Month award, and the title of Arsenal’s Player of the Year for the 2022–23 campaign.
Odegaard will lead Arsenal out for Sunday’s first North London derby of the season against Tottenham Hotspur.
