Euro 2024 qualifying Group C leaders England take on Ukraine on Saturday in Group C of the Euro 2024 Qualifiers aiming to maintain their 100% win record.
England lead this group having won four out of four matches. The last time these two nations met, England came out as 2-0 victors at Wembley Stadium. That meet was in March this year, it is so fresh in the minds of the Ukraines. Ukraine who are seated second in the group will will be looking for revenge.
Ukraine have since that defeat registered two wins in two qualifying matches. They came from two goals down to beat North Macedonia 3-2 and a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Malta.
In the same vein, the Three Lions found no difficulties in dispatching the same nations 7-0 and 4-0 respectively in June.
The Three Lions are roaring loudly in this group. They have scored more goals (15) than any other nation in this EURO 2024 qualifying campaign, and their winning streak in Euros qualifying matches now stands at seven games.
Their defense is a solid unit. They have conceded only one goal from these seven games, and it was against Italy in March. The last time they conceded more than once in a match was during a 2-1 defeat to the Czech Republic in 2019 while qualifying for the 2020 edition.
Ukraine will need to have their attackers sharp on the evening, as a win over England will give them some breathing space from Italy in third place, who have played a match less.
Team News
Ukraine will be without several players due to injury including midfielder Mykola Shaparenko, Ruslan Malinovskyi, and veteran goalkeeper Andriy Pyatov who officially retired this summer.
The good news is that Oleksandr Zinchenko, who missed June’s fixtures with a calf problem is back to full fitness and Vitaliy Mykolenko has also been called up despite a recent knock.
For England, Jack Grealish and Trent Alexander-Arnold have both failed to recover from the injuries and have pulled out of the squad. They join other absentees Mason Mount, Luke Shaw, and John Stones.
Raheem Sterling was omitted from the squad altogether. Everyone else is available for Southgate to select.
