Liverpool’s Premier League game against Tottenham Hotspurs on Saturday will be a ‘ tough test’ Jurgen Klopp has admitted.
The Reds will travel to North London to face Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with both sides looking to maintain their unbeaten run in the league this season.
Since the arrival of manager Ange Postecoglou in the summer, Spurs have impressed and their fans have shown they’re enjoying every bit of it.
Ahead of the encounter, Klopp is eagerly anticipating good football. He believes a trip to Spurs will represent another real challenge for Liverpool, as the Reds look to continue with their strong start.
“It is a really tough test. I can’t remember an easy game,” Klopp said at his pre-match press conference.
“We played at Newcastle, that was tough. Chelsea too; the away games have all been tough and home games not easy.
“Tottenham is doing really well. Ange [Postecoglou] seems to be a top bloke, I’m looking forward to meeting him. If you saw Celtic play you’d know how good a coach he is. He is delivering good football in a year when Harry Kane left.
“He is doing extremely well; they are exciting to watch. It’ll be a test for both of us.”
Team News
Thiago Alcantara is the only injury concern for Klopp as Trent Alexander-Arnold is now back from his hamstring injury.
Tottenham will be without Brennan Johnson who suffered a hamstring injury 60 minutes into his full debut at Emirates Stadium, while James Maddison is expected to be fit despite having suffered a gut-wrenching knee jolt against Arsenal.
Ivan Perisic (knee), Giovani Lo Celso (thigh), Alfie Whiteman (ankle), Rodrigo Bentancur (knee), Bryan Gil (groin) and Ryan Sessegnon are the other absentees for Spurs.
Match Stats
Liverpool have an excellent record against Spurs. They have won nine of their last 11 games in all competitions against the London side.
They come into Saturday’s game unbeaten in 17 league games, a run stretching back to last season.
Liverpool have scored at least once in each of their last 15 Premier League games against Spurs. However, they have also only kept two clean sheets in that run. Both sides have found the back of net in each of the last six meetings.
Tottenham will be looking to start a Premier League campaign with a seven-game unbeaten run for just a third time. They went 12 games unbeaten in 2016-17 and seven last season.
Liverpool are the only Premier League team Tottenham are yet to beat at their new stadium.
Mohamed Salah has either scored (six goals) or assisted (nine assists) a goal in each of his last 12 Premier League appearances, including all Liverpool’s six league games this season (three goals, four assists).
