Manchester City ran riots against Leicester City at the Etihad stadium as they fired three past the relegation candidates to cut the point gap at the top of the Premier League table to three.
From the get go, Leicester were a no match for their hosts. They conceded the first goal as early as the fifth minute through a John Stones’ volley. And before it had even hit the half hour mark, City were counting three; the second and third both scored by Erling Haaland who matched Mo Salah’s record for most Premier League goals in a 38-game season- 32.
Man City’s third goal had two things; it was Haaland’s 32nd league goal, and it handed Kevin De Bruyne his 100th assist for the Citizens. The goal was also Haaland’s 13th in his last six games.
The Norwegian who put five past Leipzig in the Champions League last month didn’t get an opportunity to bag a hat-trick though as he was substituted at the start of the second half.
Stones the other goal scorer was also substituted at the same time, the duo replaced by Julian Alvarez and Manuel Akanji. De Bruyne was substituted as well in the 60th minute. He made way for City youngster Cole Palmer.
Kelechi Iheanacho scored Leicester’s goal in the 75th minute, but it could only pass for a consolation
The win takes Pep Guardiola’s men to 70 points, just three behind league leaders Arsenal who play West Ham tomorrow. For Leicester meanwhile, the loss keeps them second from the bottom with 25 points.
